Inevitably, if you have a successful career, are an entrepreneur, or work from home, you’ll be faced with what feels more like choosing than prioritizing between work and family. How many of you have questioned yourselves about your decision to be a working mom or dad? Well, you are definitely not alone. It’s a struggle to balance it all for many, including me. Trust me, it’s not easy, it takes an enormous amount of discipline but above all, you need a strong support system and even then; it’s extremely challenging. Please realize that what works for one family might not work for another. So it’s always good to take advice from different sources and apply only what works for you. Set yourself up for success.
The following are some tips that have worked for me and that I continue to tweak on a need basis.:
Build a dependable support system. Whether it’s your significant other, your nanny, or grandparents their help is fundamental to your success. Take it whenever you can. It’s ok to get help. No one succeeds by working alone. You will be much happier and in turn will be able to get so much more accomplished. I bet Wonder Woman had a crew!
Create a schedule for your mornings and evenings. It’s imperative that you create a schedule and try to stick to it. Creating patterns helps the children and us flow from one task to the other with ease. I know it’s hard to commit but please try.
Assign tasks. Letting everyone know what their contribution will be creates a sense responsibility and accomplishment for all. I love when we all do chores together at the same time. It helps us bond and take care of business simultaneously.
Don’t forget about quality time. Remember to incorporate time to share your thoughts, games, and laughter. In other words, anything that will strengthen the bonds that already exists.
